Industry Use Case

Construction & Demolition Use Case – TRUE & LEED Certified Projects

In the United States, Construction and Demolition projects generate over 600 million tons of waste annually, with 144 million tons destined for landfills. While 75% of materials are regularly diverted for recycling or reuse, with proper planning and materials management it is possible to divert 95% of materials.

Projects following the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Guidance for Construction Projects, a framework administered by GBCI, have proven that the 95% diversion rate is an attainable goal.  Maximizing diversion nationwide diversts an additional 115 million tons from landfill, reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 65 million metric tons, the equivalent of removing over 15 million cars from our roads.

TRUE and LEED Certified construction projects have many benefits.  When projects seek to attain these certifications, waste reduction and diversion efforts offer credits.  Qualifying for the credits requires accurate recordkeeping and the ability to present the data to auditors.

How Z3 helps

Achieving TRUE or LEED certification requires project managers to collect and organize data for all end of use materials.  Z3 Data simplifies this process on behalf of the project managers, freeing up resources to focus on strategic execution instead of administrative burdens.

Z3 supports the Project Manager, by building out a schedule of the materials infrastructure including the number and size of bins used by material, the hauler removing the material, the destination of materials, and the number of collections and volume removed.

Z3, utilizing Zenbi, organizes and summarizes the data, offering reports, dashboards, and actionable analytics.  It is not uncommon for managers, with the support of Zenbi, to identify cost savings opportunities or inefficiencies in waste removal operations.
